Vascular Surgery Residency Training Program
The Vascular Surgery Residency Training
Program started July 1, 1986 with one Residency Review Committee (RRC)-approved
trainee per year. This was increased after RRC approval to two approved trainees
per year in 1992.
The primary goal of the training program
is to train academic vascular surgeons. The program is administered by the
faculty of Washington University School of Medicine and is based in the Department
of Surgery. Dr. Gregorio A. Sicard is the program director, chief of the Section
of Vascular Surgery and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery.
The residency's clinical training
program historically has been one year in length followed by an optional basic
research component year. Beginning in July 2006, following the RRC's new requirements,
the training program was increased to a two-year clinical program.
The Vascular Surgery Residency is
under the umbrella of the General Surgery Residency, directed by Dr. Timothy
Eberlein, Bixby Professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery.
